Biography
Dr. Truzaar Dordi is a Senior Lecturer in Sustainability Management and Director of Partnerships and Engagement in the Department of Environment and Geography at the University of York. His research, in the field of sustainability transitions, examines how capital markets and concentrated networks of financial power either enable or obstruct transition. He is currently a Principal Investigator and UK Lead for an ESRC Open Research Area project, Capitalizing on Transformation, which studies the role of capital markets in sustainable food systems, and is the Co-Director of the CIFAR Discovery Program on Capital Markets and the Future of Food. He has published over 25 peer-reviewed articles in journals including Climatic Change, Energy Research & Social Science, and Environmental Innovation and Societal Transitions, and holds a PhD in Sustainability Management from the University of Waterloo. He is also recognized as a Corporate Knights 30 Under 30 Sustainability Leader, a White Rose Crucible Fellow, and a Canadian Clean50 Emerging Leader.
Research
Truzaar’s research explores how capital markets influence sustainability transitions – specifically fossil fuel divestment and shareholder engagement, the financialization of agriculture, and on transition governance. He’s particularly interested in how financial networks shape the pace of transitions, and how this leverage can be redirected toward systemic change rather than incremental optimization.
Research methods and approaches
Computational and data-intensive methods: computational text analysis, natural language processing, and machine learning for large-scale evidence synthesis of corporate and policy disclosures; bibliometric and content/discourse analysis; event-study methodology for market reactions; and network modelling of ownership and financial influence. Increasingly complemented by qualitative and participatory approaches – arts-based narrative elicitation and Three Horizons strategic foresight – to combine quantitative modeling with lived experience.

I am looking to connect with researchers, practitioners, and artists interested in systemic change and transition pathways. I would particularly welcome conversations around:
- Working with researchers in food systems, human geography, policy, law, and governance to connect financial mechanisms to institutional change.
- Collaborating on creative, arts-based research methods and qualitative narrative elicitation.
- Engaging with regional food networks, civil society, or policy groups to translate research into practical tools.
